My Master Cleanse Journey –

Days 1 through 5

I am 41 years old and weigh 167 as I start my Master Cleanse Journey. Although weight loss is not my main focus for doing it, it has been a constant challenge for me to keep my body balanced so I do want to drop weight as my body sheds toxins.

Food has been my addiction in the past so binging on unhealthy foods has been a source of imbalance. Plus,  I LOVE FOOD! When I was younger and dancing 8 hours a day, I could eat anything I wanted without it affecting me. Now, I have to work harder and be smarter about what I put in my body. I also have to be aware of my mindset around food.

So one of my intentions for doing this master cleanse is to reestablish a healthy relationship with food and eliminate any unhealthy patterns supporting addictive thoughts. This blog is going to take you through my personal journey of fasting and transitioning into the Alkaline lifestyle.

In order to clear my body of toxins, I feel it is necessary to  thoroughly cleanse my kidneys and colon, as well as reduce inflammation and allergies. There are also anti-aging aspects of a long cleanse that I am intrigued by and would like to experiment with.

I am nervous and excited at the same time. My hope in sharing this intimate story and journey is to inspire those who look to food for fulfillment when they are insecure, bored, depressed, sad, or lonely. I have been there and have experienced all of these at many times in my life. Taking the power back will be a constant choice in every moment.

My goal is 21 days on the Master Cleanse and then 11 days of the Alkaline liquid diet to fully transition to a fully alkalized body. I will share details on this when I begin the next phase.

I will be sharing my physical and emotional experience of each day. I will also be posting pictures at day 1, and at the end to see visible results.

What is the Master Cleanse?

~

The Master Cleanse or “Lemonade Diet” was originally designed by Stanley Burroughs in the 1950s. It is a fast that consists of drinking 12 glasses of the lemonade throughout the day for 10 days. In addition, each morning you drink 4 cups of salt water and a laxative tea at night.Some individuals choose to do less and some have even done it up to 40 days.The Lemonade is made with fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper.

The Main Reason to do the Master Cleanse is to detox the body. This means allowing your body to rid itself of toxins from the environment, from the food we eat and from waste that has accumulated in our colon. If left unattended, a toxic body can become a breeding ground for all types of diseases including cancer.

The majority of the toxins that have become stored in the body end up in the fat cells. When a cleanse begins to work, the toxins will be loosened and reintroduced into the system before moving out of the body. This is when we can often experience “a healing crisis” or “detox symptoms.”

The Master Cleanse is designed to move old toxins out very quickly with a combination of the lemonade, laxative tea, and salt water flush. At the end of the cleanse it is very important to move back into eating food slowly. It is recommended to break the fast with 2 days of fresh orange juice or grapefruit juice. Then, on the 3rd day introduce vegetable broth. On the 4th and 5th days you can eat fresh fruit and salad. It is also recommended to take probiotics before and when reintroducing food in case the friendly bacteria in the colon has been killed off with the rest of the bacteria.

Day 1

~

I woke up this morning and mixed 1 Tablespoon of Celtic Sea Salt in a Liter of warm water. Then, I drank it as fast as I could. I made my lemonade mixture in a gallon jug so I would have it ready for the day. I waited an hour before drinking it so the salt could work its magic. Within the hour it definitely started working and I was amazed at how quickly I could feel the warm liquid traveling through my lower abdomen area. It started gurgling right away. After 2 hours and 4 BM’s I was feeling pretty good. I had a headache and foggy brain, but it was mild.

I did Yin Yoga and it was profoundly enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful. I listened to a Kundalini Meditation before bed and slept soundly.

Day 2

~

Today, I woke up feeling refreshed and had lots of energy. I did the SWF right away and all went well. My head was clear and I felt motivated. Work was so easy because I had a lot of inspired ideas and my writing flowed effortlessly. I just noticed my mind chatter was less. I had clear thoughts without all the distraction. I was more calm, centered, and grounded. It made for an easy flow all day long.

I did Yin Yoga again but it was more challenging. After the ease of the rest of the day, I thought it would be easier. I just noticed a slight resistance to sinking all the way in. My mind still wanted to be in work mode. I did notice about half way into the practice, there was a shift into stillness. My hips were tighter but my spine really opened up by the end. I listened to Kundalini Meditation and fell fast asleep.

Day 3

~

I slept so soundly last night and had the sweetest dreams all night. I am not usually a morning person but I woke up wanting to sing with the birds. My skin is changing and smoothing out too. I skipped the SWF this morning and did an extra laxative tea. It is okay to substitute this if you choose. I did notice a slight puffiness around my eyes this morning  but no other detox symptoms so far.  My mind chatter has calmed and my thoughts are more positive. I am joyful and optimistic. I have my gallon of lemonade for the day! I actually love the taste of it and have no hunger cravings at all.

Work is more challenging today because my mind just wants to be calm and go inward.

~

After yoga, my meditation was really expansive since I was following my natural inclination to go inward. It would have been nice to have the whole day to meditate, but I chose to do work as usual. I will be listening to a short hypnosis audio for accepting love and Inner Divine Beauty.

Day 4

~

I woke up with a clogged right ear which was annoying but not painful. I cannot hear anything and hope it will not affect my balance. I did the SWF and could feel it right away. There is a lot of cleaning out and I feel so good! I have tried to unclog my ear with no luck. I am not really thinking about food at all. My body seems to be getting exactly what it needs from the lemonade.

I did Cross Training Yoga for 45 minutes. It was a hard session but I felt really strong. I was definitely more present in my body. Then, toward the end of my session, I was doing reclining pigeon pose and smiled because it felt SO good. I let out a sigh and my ear unclogged completely. Ahhhhhh.

~

I was experiencing layers of subtle bliss in my whole being. It felt so fulfilling to be ultra present with my body as it was moving through the flow. It was as if I could feel every muscle flexing like yoga and my breath for intricately formed as one union. It was a dance of life. I even accomplished poses I’d always had to modify previously.

~

It feels like my body is meant to cleanse and do yoga. I feel joy and bliss like I am falling in love with life. I feel naturally grateful for everything around me, fully emersed in every magnificent moment. I could get used to this kind of happiness.

~

It is late and I am feeling really hungry. I will just go to bed without an audio tonight.

~

Day 5

~

I woke up feeling groggy and a lack of motivation. I am going to the gym to do the steam room and dry sauna. I notice my stomach is noticeably flatter. I can really feel the benefits of the colon cleaning out.

~

After the steam room, my right ear was clogged and hurting. I will try a self-lymph drainage and see if that helps. I did weigh at the gym and am down 7lbs. The great part is I don’t feel weak or flabby like other times I’ve lost weight quickly. I actually feel stronger and more toned. I think the combination of the cleanse and yoga are perfect.

My skin is radiant. Even with a few detox symptoms, I have a greater sense of well-being. Any anxiety I felt before is gone. I also have more clarity in my meditations. It feels like the neuropathways in my brain are clear and functioning at a higher level. I will resume the Kundalini Meditation tonight.
