Alkaline Cleanse – Day 17

Alkaline Cleanse - Misha Almira

What is the Alkaline Cleanse?

An alkaline diet focuses on using alkaline foods such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds which are low in caloric density. Healthy Alkaline Diet foods involve the perfect balance between acidifying and alkalizing foods.

The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14, with 7 being neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic and greater than 7 is alkaline. Our perfect pH is slightly alkaline at a level of 7.30 to 7.45.

Why Is This Important?

A balanced body usually provides all of the essential minerals.  Our bodies are in a constant state of rebalancing. If our system is too acidic, our body has to pull minerals from our bones, teeth, and other tissues. This can lead to list of other issues such as fragile bones, weak immune system, inflammation, and fatigue. If the body stays acidic over a long period of time the symptoms could lead to more serious conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid problems, cancer and other insidious conditions.

How To…

A simple way to start is by adding healthy alkalizing foods to your existing diet. You will want to eat a diet of 80% alkaline-forming foods and 20% acid-forming foods. Acid forming foods include meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, and legumes. If you are a meat eater, you could start by, filling 80% of your plate with leafy greens and make sure you have green vegetables with each meal. For a quick reference, see this list.

Top Most Alkalizing Foods

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Cucumber
  • Broccoli
  • Avocado
  • Celery
  • Bell Pepper

It is important at first, to keep it simple and make sure you are not depriving yourself of foods you enjoy. You can move slowly. Definitely stay away from fast foods and sugary sweets. These will only defeat your other efforts. If you have a sweet tooth, you can start substituting with a sweetener like stevia. It can be exchanged for sugar in almost all recipes.

Highly processed foods are generally acid forming so cut out the packaged sweet treats and snacks. You will also want to make sure you are buying organic produce because pesticides will cause more acidity in the system as well.

Day 17

Today, I woke up feeling rejuvenated and joyful. I started the day with Smooth Move tea. Then, I drank 1 Liter of Green Drink. I have included the recipes below. I did some work and got a burst of energy from the green. About an hour later, I made the first soup which I call  The Dill Refresher. It was definitely refreshing and delicious. All of the flavors are amplified from not eating junk for 16 days. My senses are refined and it adds so much pleasure to food.

Before lunch, I had another Liter of Green Drink and water with Bentonite Clay in it. After that, I had some more Dill Refresher. Normally, I would have a different soup, but this one was so good, I wanted more.

I was able to do a short dumbbell arm workout and a 20-minute walk. I will do yoga later tonight. My intention is to slowly raise my metabolism while reintroducing foods, during this transition.

All of the soups are pureed so that will make it easier on the digestive system. I also started taking probiotics for help with friendly bacteria.

I will be having Roasted Red Pepper Delight Soup tonight. I can’t wait!
