If You’re Feeling It, It Must Be Perfect

It is so easy to judge an experience as good or bad according to how it feels in our body.

Often our judgment of the experience is what causes it to be painful.

By removing the label of judgment, we may find that the sensation can change.

Feeling Uncomfortable

I am starting a new job tomorrow and I’ve been nervous today. I have a rock in my stomach.

It seems to be triggering an old story about who I was in the past.

It was extremely uncomfortable and kept nagging me. I didn’t even realize how much I was resisting it for most of the day.

Then, I stopped long enough for a message to slip into my consciousness.

“Is it okay to feel nervous anxiety?”

When I let the question sink in, the answer was, “yes.”

My body relaxed immediately and I had a sigh of relief.

The Subtle Ways We Run

Isn’t it amazing how subtle our resistance can become? I thought I was feeling it, but I was really trying to change it.

First, I distracted myself with busy work, shopping online, calling friends, paying bills, and even talking about it (not to release it but to complain about it).

Then, I started an inner dialogue of telling myself how easy it was going to be, that I was strong enough to handle anything etc…

This was also trying to change the experience of feeling uncomfortable.

Then, I tried grounding the heavy energy and bringing in light…anything to make the feeling go away.

I was still trying desperately to get away from feeling uncomfortable, without even realizing by pushing against it, it was making it worse.

What Message Does It Have?

After inviting, accepting and allowing the feeling to just be, my body relaxed and I could breathe again.

Once we stop resisting our experience, whatever it may be, we can receive the true healing.

We can ask,”do you have a message for me?”

Then, just listen…

What Is the Gift?

Open to how this feeling, or experience has strengthened you.

Gifts

  • I could see how the experience of being anxious gave me an alert awareness of my environment.
  • It caused me to go deeper inside and to listen more intently to that voice.
  • It gave me a distinction between the voice of fear and the gentle whisper of knowing.
